I just bought a 69 RS/SS 396 car and it has fiber optics on the fenders and on the rear speaker shelf. It also has AC, PS, PDB, rear defrost, non matching 396, T400, curved neck four core radiator, deluxe black interior, and power windows. How rare is this?

I would guess it is pretty rare. Not many Vigilite optioned cars out there....

The U46 Light Monitoring System was installed on 1,450 1969 Camaros.

Especially rare on a convertible; the rear display is different.

When was the car built? Anything odd on the body tag?

A freind of mine just bought a 69 SS/RS with fiber optics/ power windows/air/ Tilt/cruise/ speedminder/ AM/FM multiplux/ space saver spare and paint delete. It was ordered with powder blue paint, white vinal top and white interior. It is not coded on the trim tag or POP for the fiber optics and they are definately original to the car. As far as rare I would say it depends on your definition of rare. In my oppinion it is a desirable car and definately one worthy of a restoration.

Question

This is prob a dumb question but... How can I tell if I have this?

I am getting ready to replace my wiring harnesses and I think I need to know this when I order.

Also - any good tips on replacing the harnesses or good products?

Thanks!

My 68 RS Conv has the fiber option. I recently saw a complete setup for a non-rs, non-conv advertised $2500. Ebay had one sell about 4 months for $2K+. So, its a RARE option.

As for wiring harness, it was fiber optic, not copper. it does not apply to wiring harnesses. As for the option, you'll know. two big (if not rare, otherwise ugly) chrome bumps on top of your front fenders!
