I have a 69 camaro, and I'm not sure if it's a SS or base car, plate on the firwall it says it's an X11 body, but that says it could b either or. When I got the car the original motor wasn't in and I don't have the build sheet. What car is it?

Welcome to the best site on the net.

Other signs that it might be an SS include 12-bolt rear, multileaf rear springs, simulated velocity stacks hood... I don't believe any SS cars came with a PG, 2 speed auto trans either. Good luck.

Simply check the rear frame rails as viewed through the rear wheelwells. If both rear frame rails have the factory welded doubler plate for the exhaust hangars it's an SS. Only cars with dual exhaust came with doublers welded onto both frame rails. SS and z/28's all had to have these. Also the SS frame stands for the engine mounts will have oblong holes, not round. Grille should be black, not painted black, molded black. Check your glove box tire pressure decal also. Check what size fuel line you have. All 69 SS had quarter panel louver trim, chrome accents on the tail lights, roof drip edge, ect. Pull the vent out of your door jamb and look inside the rear quarter to see if the four holes have been filled where the louvers once were. There are lots of other small details to look for as well, these are just a few of them.

I believe SY1 is correct on his description of finding an SS. I personally have a 69 with disc brakes, a 12-bolt rear and multi-leafs, but it is a base Camaro!! It however is missing the frame brackets for the dual exhaust thus making it not a SS!!

69 Camaro - 327 AT
"461" camel back heads,
edelbrock, hooker, ultradyne,
TRW etc.
