I have a 67 ss/rs convertible deluxe interior, that I am starting to restore. The car has been in my family for 30 years, but there are a few things I can't figure out. First I don't have the original tires and I can't figure out what the original wheels look like that go on this particular car. I'm hoping the rally sport rims. Second the interior has some discrepencies. The car has black deluxe interior, the back seat has the white trim, but the front is solid black with headrests. The trim plate says nothing about headrests. My family says they were never changed as long as they had it, since 1969. The car has been in a barn since 1973 so I know it hasn't been changed for 27 years. 2 pedals also have metal trim, but the trim plate doesn't show the special interior option. Can anyone shed some light?

Delux interior had the white stripe around the seat. You should have it both front and rear.
The adjustable headrest seats sound like the 68 or 70 Camaro seats. I had a 68 that had them. The pattern sewn into them was a little different than 67.

Around 72 or 73 for shure the headrest became integral with the seat and were not adjustable.
Is the seat material different in the front. Kind of like a woven plastic stuff that breathes? If so, it's 70.

The seats are like a woven plastic, with a solid 3 or 4 inch black vinyl trim. There are also buttons on the top part of the seat, but not on the bottom. The headrests are a solid plastic, no stiching, they are somewhat cushioned.

On the firewall tag in category 5, which is usually the last set of numbers, "Y" is the option code for the headrests on a 67. If you don't have the "Y" then the headrests were added on.

Bonecrusher,

I never knew that 67's had optional headrests. Do you have any idea when in the "model year" the were made an option or was it from the start? My early ('66) '67 SS/RS didn't come with them and I don't recall the salesman that sold me the car saying anything about them. You know how salesmen are, when they go down the option list, they try to sell you everything. I know that I think the "low-backed" 67's front buckets were the best looking of the three years. But, thats just my opinion. pdq67

I checked my 67 Sales brochure and the headrests are listed as an option.

"Strato-Ease Headrests- add to interior beauty, aid driver and passenger comfort. For Strato-bucket or Strato-back front seats".

The strato back seat is the bench seat with fold down arm rest in the middle.

You have the Strato-bucket seats.
A suprise to me too.

Group 5-Y is deluxe seat belts in '67... A "Y" next to the interior trim ie: 765-Y would be black custom buckets with factory headrests....

DJD is probably right on the number sequence. I was trying to pull an some numbers out of the air with what few brain cells I have left.
Anyway, my conv. originally came with headrests, and I have a slot in the seat back frames for them, but alas the last owner was too lazy to recover them when he did the rest of the seats and tossed them. Now I'd be thrilled to find a pair to recover for under $150.
