fyi,

My source shows these num's as follows.

3914678....302.....68....2...Z-28
3892657....302.....67....2...Z-28
3932386....302.....69....4...Z-28
3956618....302.....69....4...Z-28
3970010....302.....69....4...Z-28
but to be sure you will have to run the num's that are on the passenger front deck of the block. HOPE THIS HELPS.

I have first hand knowledge on a march 69 Z/28.It should be a 618 block.Jan thru Dec 68 should be 386.Dec68 thru April 69 should be 618,April69 thru Nov 69 should be 010.The 010 block was used for many years as the 4 bolt block. The 010 also can be a 2 bolt block.Check your date code on the back of the block, drivers side, for month and year casting #s.

Z man,I just got that out of Jerry MacNeishs fact book. The best book Ive ever had on Z/28s.The dates for changeover were approximate. The March car Im sure would have a 618.I checked an original block on an O3D 69Z/28.It is a 618.

I have a 3E '69 and understand what the casting number should be, but what build-date DZ block should I be looking for?

01C and 01/23 do match, but it's easy to restamp an assembly date into a re-decked block. Check the casting stamp date and compare them. That date is on the back flange of the block not too far from the casting number that you found. If you had a block cast in March and the assembly stamping of 01/23, that would be real suspicious. Is there a partial VIN on the stamping pad or oil filter area?
