I can't remember where I saw it but is a black 69 SSRS supposed to have a black or silver grill What about Z28s etc?. It seems to me if the car was black you would want to break up all that black so the grill would stand out. It seems though all I see is Black grills now. Did EVERYONE get a repro grill? Here is an example: 69SSRS
BTW be carful their prices are kinda high
(Even if I put 20k into my 69 I'd still beat their price )

Ace, this may sould a little confusing, but here is the way I understand it. In 69, all ss cars had a black grille, and all standard Z's had a silver grille. All rs cars had a black grille, except the black Z. It seems that Chevy made the RPO Z27 and RPO Z28 "primary" options, and the Z22 was a "secondary" option, that could be added. In the case of the black rs Z, since RPO Z28 had "priority" over RPO Z22, they were able to leave the rs grille silver, to break up the colors on an all black car, since the Z28 option included the silver grille. But, on a black ss/rs, the Z27 option included the black grille, and since RPO Z27 had "priority" over Z22, the grille was black. Therefore the black rs Z/28 was an exception, but still fit within the RPO priority guidelines. Make sense?

Thanks for the clarification. I was actually able to follow and comprehend what your saying. As a sidenote which do you prefer to drive, your Camaro or your Chevelle? It's a toss up for me. Chevelle is easier in traffic(auto) and sounds mean( it is mean ) But it sure is fun to row through the gears in a 427 4spd
Thanks again

Ace, Yeah, I agree, the Z is a fun car to drive with the 4-speed. It gets a lot of attention. My 70 Chevelle is a lot more [email protected] car, and I drive it more. It's more comfy and has cold A/C. Gets pretty hot here in TX. Also, it will run 12.40's through the muffs and DOT tires. With a 292 cam, 3 in. flowmasters, and a 3k stall, it also scares the he!! out of those Mustang and Gran National guys.

If the silver car was a non r/s Z, it would have a silver grille. If it had the r/s option, it would have a black grille. The 69 black r/s Z/28 was the only "grille color exception" car that I am aware of.
