i just got done installing a new cam(xe-294h) into my 396. previously i had a moroso valley pan installed, but i forgot to install it.
now, should i put it back in or isn't it worth it. i know that it will keep the hot oil from hitting the bottom of the intake, thus keeping things cooler, but are they really worth it for the street. to install it back in, i'd have to remove all the pushrods and then re-adjust everything. the engine is still out, so now would be the time, but like i said, is the pan worth it for the street ?
thanks,
bruce

I always use the valley pans. If the design is so the pushrods go through it, then it can be beneficial if there is a problem with pushrod breakage. Keeps parts from migrating down the oil drainback holes and causing damage, and, keeps the lifters in the bores if a pushrod breaks, so the oil pressure doesn't go to zero instantaneously. Does many functions. I think they are very nescessary, just my experience and opinion.
