He guys have a question!
I have a 89 camaro 2.8 v6 with a 700r4 transmission.Im wanting to put a 327in it will my transmission work or what do i have to do to modify it. I was very impressed I had one. I got a print out on the net to show all chevy transmission and was inpressed.
I thought I had a 200-r4.
The print out shows a picture of all chevy tranmissions and for the 700r4. It says 4speed transmission used in gmcars and light trucks with the 2.8,3.1,4.3v6 and 305,350 and 454.
The 200r4 says used in gm rear wheel drive cars with the 3.8,v6 and 307,350 oldsand 301 pontiac from 1981 to 1989.
thanks for the help !!!!

You can use the 700 with a 327,unfortunately the v-6 bellhousing in your car is different.

Also not to mention that if you use this car on the street with the 327 you would be in violation of state and federal emissions laws!

Cool

Well if they don't check for emissions in your state who cares? I live in michigan and they don't check here. I personaly like the fact that i make little critters choke and fall over dead from the emissions put out by my car when i drive by. I say drop that 327 in get the right bellhousing and go have fun!!!

No it won't work. The bellhousing bolt pattern they are talking about is in fact the whole tranny. You will need to get an entire trans from a different car for a V-8, and the drive shaft might not be the same length. It would be easier to find a V-8 camaro and swap all the parts or sell yours and buy a V-8 camaro.

A turbo 350 will hold up behind any smallblock and even a mild 454. I would imagine that is the cheaper of the two, although as you have noticed they are both much cheaper than a 700R4.

Id go with the 700r4 if I was you.
not only will it give you better fuel mileage cuz of the lock-up and the over drive,
it also has a steeper first geer ratio(3.06) compared to the th-350 or 400(2.55?)
your firebird proly has 2.73 gears if it has the automatic.
the 700 would be the choice to go.
