Question

Are there any places I can get a tach for my stock 68 camaro 327 turbo 350, all the restoration catalogs don't have them and I need one!!! Was the tach a special thing?

my car also has high performance heads if that helps at all. I was also wondering what kind of horsepower it makes with the 2 barrel.

So far, there is not anyone that reproduces the 1968 Camaro "Tic-Toc" tach. You will have to find one at a swap meet, ebay, or someone that sells used Camaro parts. Sounds like you need the 5000 redline tach for a small block. These tachs are rare, so be prepared to pay big $$!

A 5K redline tach was on e-bay, its auction closed today went for $615. Last week a couple of 6k redline tachs sold, one for $760 the other for $640. Lots of money for a tach that is hard to see.

I'm in the same boat. I have a 68 5500 tach thats damaged in the back and can't find another to make one good one. Currently I have a 67 5000 tach in my car that is in beautiful to perfect shape. I don't want to get rid of it but I may have to do a trade or something. I might even look into using the tach mechanism for the 67 on the 68 tach. I believe they are the same with the needle assembly being different for the 68 due to the clock. Just can't pay the big bucks

does the 67 fit well in the 68 dash and does it match the speedo?

JMB984, The tach has the same numerals and is the same exact size and shape and is a direct bolt in except the 67 clusters have a black backround with lite colored numerals while the 68 clusters have a light colored backround with dark numerals. Pretty much opposite color schemes. No big deal if you have both the speedo and tach from the same year which I do but its just not right for 68 's that came with the tick tock tach. If I didn't have the broken 68 tach I wouldn't care as much but I would love to see the tick tock tach in my car someday

What specifically is wrong with your tach?

68SS396,

I am sure there are others that do this as well. But you may want to ask firewheelclassics.com about repairing your tach. They sent mine out and had it refurbished for me including the repainting of the tach face. It is my understanding that their tach guy will also fix your tach if there is a problem with it. He may also have the parts necessary to fix yours. He can repaint the face to correspond to any rpm redline you want. EXCELLENT WORK!!! Doesn't hurt to try anyway with the cost of these replacements!!!

sr71bb, Thank you for the tip. I have tried most of the places that say they repair tachs and they tell me because its obvious it needs parts either they can't fix it due to no parts available for it or they tell me the price would be at least three to four hundred because its not what they call a standard repair. They have no problem fixing them if they don't work because its usually a easy fix for them but not when its physically damaged. I don't care about the plastic thats broken in the back that covers it but they very bach of the tach mechanism is damaged. I don't even think I am missing any of the damaged pieces but a couple are hanging off. So the places that are willing to try want almost the same as what they go for and they can't guarantee they can do it.
