Question

I just re-installed a mildly modified 408 big block in my 69 SS. I meticuously put everything back together, checked and double checked and even triple checked. At a point I began to hook my stock dual exhaust system to a set of Hedman Street Heddersthe only to find that the passenger side collector is so tight against the floorpan that I can't even move the flange ring. I am so frustrated and was wondering if anyone else has encountered a problem with this or is this a matter of Jeg's shipping the wrong headers to me?

Question

Did you swap or use different motor mounts? Maybe the mounts are a little too tall and are causing the clearance trouble on one side.

Just a guess...

I didn't change mounts. The car is an original smallblock car, though. Would it be possible to use the smallblock mounts on the bigblock and would they be taller and cause this problem? The changes had already been made when I bought the car, so I'm unsure about a lot of things. Thanks for the help.

You need to get the B/B frme mounts. It'll drop the motor on the pass. side just enough to hook up the exhaust. My car had a 327 and I put in a 502. Changed everything over to a B/B and the headers fit in fine, I even have A/C.

choptop & mobiletools, Thanks much for the info. After your replies and a check in my Classic Industries catalog, I see now that there is a different frame mount for the bigblock. I hope this takes care of the problem.
