I am trying to remove the black shifter button from my 67 automatic with console.
I can't see how the button comes off. I don't want to damage the knob. Has anyone done this?
Thanks for any info....

It will pull off but may take some damage in the process. The metal shaft under has some ridges for the plastic to grip. You have to get under the edges of the button and pull. The replacements are cheap so don't be too worried. Just don't ding the chrome. You can get new buttons from most first gen suppliers.

If you use a butter knife, only pry up on it in the center of the button and on both sides, it will come off.
