I'm getting ready to replace the roller on the door hinges. Does anyone know of a trick for removing and installing the spring other than "the duck and cover drill". I don't have the spring tool and was wondering if anyone has had better luck.

Take a pair of stout flat washers, 1/2 in ID, 1/8 in thick, and weld them onto a pair of ViseGrips. Works great!!!!

Compress the spring in the vise and wrap a couple of strands of heavy wire around the compressed spring, place it into the hinge and then cut the wires.
