I finally got the dual exhaust (aluminized with h-pipe) installed on my 68 (formerly single exhaust) today. The shop mounted turbo mufflers where the stock resonators would go.

Unfortunately, whenever I go over a speed bump, the front pipes scrape. Two weeks ago I put P235/60R14 BFGoodrich Advantage GTs on the car but had not tried taking the car over speed bumps.

Do you think the scraping is due to the lower profile tires? That is what the exhaust shop said. The former owner of the car had 205/75-14s on it because he said the stock single exhaust scraped with him when he had the OEM tire size.

Have any of you with a similar setup (235/60-14s and duals) experienced scraping when going over speed bumps?

Other than the scraping I really like performance of the tires and the duals.

Scrappy Doo, Do you have 235/60-14's all the way around or are these the fronts or the backs? Has the car been lowered? Assuming that you have 235/60's all the way around and the suspension is stock height, there is no reason for your pipes to drag. I have had several 1st Generation Camaro's and have had exhaust drag only on one car that had been lowered 2" front and rear and had 235/60-15's. The exhaust shop may have hung everything to low and is trying to put the blame on something else!

I know your pain. I have 235/60/15's on all corners of my 69, with the Flowmaster dual setup with the transverse mounted muffler. The car is lowered 2" all around and the header collector flange scrapes on most speed bumps. I cant even pull into my own garage (unless I go in sideways). But the car handles great so......

You poor bastards... I have a 68 that is lowered 2-1/2 inches in front, and 2" out back, with FULL 3" exhaust, and 17" rims with 235/45/ZR17 on the front, and 275/40/ZR17's out back. I NEVER SCRAPE!!!
You need to route it better. Or the shop does. My frame will hit before my exhaust does.

i had the same problem with my 68 headers dual exhaust and i chanche the front coils springs and the shacks and i have no problem now

My car is lowered 3 inchs front and rear. If the driver side header fit up close to the body like the passenger side it wouldn't hit, but alas it doesn't and so it is now leaking like a sieve! OUCH! I think the car looks and handles really good like this, but some new exhaust up front is gonna have to happen. I think the shop hung your pipes too low. Good luck resolving it ~ John
