Question

I have a 69 BB w/ a 4-speed and flowtech headers that I am converting from auto to manual. I finally got the headers bent correctly so they don't hit the power steering box. I am now hooking up the clutch linkage. First of all does the ball go into the block or the bell housing? There are holes in both. When I put the ball in the block like I thought it was supposed to go the z-bar hits the headers and will not go far enough forward to let the clutch pedal off of the floor. When I put the ball in the Bell housing the rod is too long to fit in between the clutch fork and the z-bar. HELP!!!!

the ball goes into the block.....How big are the tubes of your headers? I had 2" Hooker Super Comps and the last pipe on that side actually looped over the z-bar to clear. I didn't like that and the fact that I had to pull the headers to replace plugs and changing the oil was a real mess. I went with Doug Thorley 1 3/4" and they are much cleaner install, a snap to do.......

The tubes are 1 7/8" into 3" collectors. The guy that sold them to me said they would fit a manual transmission. It looks like he might have been wrong. I have heard of a SB z-bar. Is it possible I have a SB z-bar instead of a BB? Or is there no difference?

Thanks,
Greg

The z-bars are definitely different.

BB z-bar is about 9-5/8", sb about 9". Also important to have engine mounted with correct bb frame brackets, crossmember and z-bar before positioning z-bar bracket on frame. If the the z-bar is not level and straight the clutch will not release properly.

I measured mine and it is 9". So I guess I have the wrong Z-bar. I will have to exchange it for a BB one. It still looks like it will hit the top of the #3 pipe. I guess that I will have to wait and see.

Thanks for your help.
