i was looking in to the holley systemax 2 system. has any one used this setup? is the cam any good? heads crappy? i visited my machine shop guy today (he built the motor for my dad back in 75 i think?) any how he is a good friend, he only deals in crower products, he said comp cams come flat in the box. any way he said 350-400 should set me up with a cam, lifters, valve springs, and im not sure if he said he was going to do a valve job or not? any way i have a crower r/v type cam in the motor right now. the heads that had the valve springs and rockers for the cam are off the motor because those heads were not drilled for my a/c compressor. i have some q-jet heads that came off of an 80's camaro z-28, the heads were new and only cost me $100 from a friend my dad knows at a chevy dealer. the guy at the machine shop said the heads would not hurt anything. i just want to know if bigger valve sizes really make a big HP leap. and does any onw know what the valve sizes are in my heads right now? 1.94? any way the valve train is something i have always wanted to build up but im so stupid when it comes to that sort of thing. also for a mild street engine what ratio rockers should i use? 1.5 or 1.6? are roller tip rockers best? here is a run down on my motor.
350, .30 over, trw forged flat tops 10:1, 80's camaro heads stock valves springs and rockers, crower r/v type duel pattern cam, steal crank, pink rods...

i am also running a pete jackson quiet gear drive. i know you all hate them, i like the noise but i guess i should put a double roller back in it huh? as x-mas is coming and my dad and i would like to see my car rumble down the road i need some ideas. i know i am going to need a stall speed of 2500 or more for most of this stuff. i have no idea what to do. the guy who built my motor is very good, the motor was in storage for 12 years and we fired it up after we put the new heads on it and a coat of paint, no ping nothin. runs great just needs a little more rumble and a matching valve train. thanks for your time and this long post. my dad likes crower cams, we have one in my moms 67 mustang gt fast back, that little 289 really cranks! any how i would just like to thank all of you on this site for all the information i have got.

everybody has their opinion. im sure if you asked here everyone has had a bad experience with every cam manufacturer. if you trust your engine builder then so be it. the heads are going to be "smog" heads, pure and simple. having a set of 2.02 valves installed will help but by then you will have spent what it would cost to buy a set of aftermarket heads that are complete/ready to bolt on. but if $$$ is limited bigger valves will be big improvement over the stock. rockers, go with the 1.5 for now, you can always change to 1.6's later, bigger isnt always better.
