My 67 has a stock 5500 redline tachometer and the needle flutters (bounces is probably a better term) very badly. Seems to have no distinct pattern, its not unbearable but annoying especially when you really need to use the tach. Does it need lubrication, calibration, or all of the above. I'm interested to see what others have done to combat this problem. Thanks in advance.
I'm not familar with an OEM tachometer but expect it to be electrical. My aftermarket tach bounced and I traced it to a simple shorting problem where the wire passes thru the firewall. Somehow the grommet was missing (I never installed it-oops) and wore thru the insulation.
Hope that helps.
