I went to a car show last weekend and saw a 68 conv. that the owner said was a SS/RS. The owner didn't really know alot about the car, he said he had bought it as it now is. The question I have is, is it a real SS/RS it had a 327 in it and 3 speed auto. on the steering column. Did they come on the column in a SS/RS What do you fellas "and gals" think??

There is no such thing as a 327 SS. SS required either a 350/295HP or a 396 engine. Also 68's didn't come with a 3 speed auto transmission at all, unless they were a big block. The TH350 3 spd auto trans was introduced in the 69 model year, although a few very late 68's were alledgedly used to develop the TH350 transmission for the 69 model year. The only 3 speed auto trans available in 68 was the TH400, and it was used behind big blocks only.

A TH400 could have the shifter on the column though.

Thumbs down

Given the info. I would say he does not know what he has and he's hoping you don't either. I wouldn't bother with a guy who claims it to be something and has know idea why. This may be a great opportunity to point out all of the things that are wrong with it and work him down on the price.
