I have "rebuilt?" a 68 and a 69 tilt columns for my cars. It is not really difficult to take apart, reassembly can be a problem as they they go together in a certain sequence.
Maybe I was lucky and mind were in good shape, because other than bearings, all I basically did was clean and regrease them. I did repaint and replace all switches.
Question, how bad is yours? are all the parts there? Is there any slop or wobbly parts that lead you to believe something is broke or worn out? Tilt columns are pretty substantial units and unless wrecked or abused take a good deal of wear. I have had one in my 68 for four years and the 69 I just put recently, but seems to be just fine.
I don't know of any books or manuals but will be glad to answer questions if I can. Email me

Hello Again,
My column is in good condition it just needs the bearings replaced which I already own. I just want to take it apart, change the bearings & paint. I have got the cover off and I'm just not sure how to get the universal joint housing off. I would feel more comfortable with a diagram and order of stripping. Thanx Again,
