1969 RS Emblem Location

I am looking at a 1969 RS and have a question that seems simple, but I can't find a thread on it. The car I am looking at has the Rally-Sport emblem on the passenger side slightly more forward than on the driver side. The common distance on driver and passenger side seems to be to the middle of the little dash between Rally and Sport, instead of edge of fender to edge of emblem.

The AIM doesn't have good dimensions and most things I find in old threads say "buy a template" followed by "templates aren't that accurate". So I have two questions: I don't care where the holes are, but am curious if this is original. Does anyone have simple dimensions of "back of fender to the edge of the emblem? Or back of fender to first hole? Second question is why there is so much info on the site, but more threads tell people to go buy a template......nothing copyrighted about hole locations, and 1000 guys on here have probably repainted their RS and taken pics or measurements.....template guys sponsor the site or some other reason there is no good info on location? Thanks for any help.

Re: 1969 RS Emblem Location

Well the AIM is mostly accurate for emblems and stripes but it is always notated in in hundredths of inches and most people have rulers in 64th at best, 8th or 16th at worst. Or maybe no rulers at worst. So somehow their math always fails to get them in the right location and the AIM is blamed.

Good questions. Eventually once all the dust from our recent move to the cloud settles there will be the relaunch of our reference library which has a template section which is actually memorial to a former member from TC "Mark x22" who passed away a few years back. He made great templates for a host of projects. Many folks have used his templates when adding RS to a vehicle, or four speed manual from automatics, console gauges etc. But I don't think he had ones for emblems but I might be wrong.

I can't remember if there is a template in my collection for any years fender emblems but I'll get looking for you. I did think at first bite that RS and SS used the same hole pattern at least on 69 but maybe I'm feeling my age tonight.
