Sand epoxy primer

Can I sand epoxy primer to remove some drips I found ? Do I have to wait until completely dry, 7 days or so ?? I'm just experimenting right now with a cheap Eastwood spray gun I had.

Re: Sand epoxy primer

Depends on what epoxy you used. If it gums up then wait longer. PPG DP primer never sands well imho.

Re: Sand epoxy primer

Donny, What does the TDS say ? In my limited experience epoxy doesn't
sand easily. I have wet sanded it when difficult.

Re: Sand epoxy primer

I use the Sherwin Williams epoxy E2B931 and it sands well the next day if necessary.

No it is not SPI. Likely Kirker.

Re: Sand epoxy primer

I believe Summit's epoxy primer is Kirker as well ? Much less expensive than through Eastwood, plus free shipping.

It's decent quality, imo, although once the catalyst has been opened, it needs used within the recommended timeframe (1 month, IIRC) or it will leave nibs in the finish. They recommend waiting 2-3 days for sanding. Wet sand if you don't want to wait...

Re: Sand epoxy primer

Yes Summit is Kirker as far as I know. A lot of the private brands are Kirker because it is cheap paint that they can put a nice markup on....
