Adjusting door gaps without glass installed

I'm going to be hanging my doors and doing final gap alignment in a couple weeks. Can I do this without the weight of the glass or should I strap 30 lbs into the door? I'm worried that after I install the glass, the door will sit differently and mess up the gaps.

I have original hinges that have been rebuilt.

One other question... my drivers side door hinge makes a clunk or a pop when I open it. This was when I had installed the hinges but not yet greased them up. It's taken apart now and I won't be able to check and see if grease helps until after I put it back togheter. Not sure if this is expected or common or if there is something I could do about it.

Thanks,
Sal

Yes, put weight in the door when adjusting. The clunk may be the spring part.

Re: Adjusting door gaps without glass installed

30 lbs might be a bit much. I used 15-20 lbs. I had some old house window weights
I laid inside the door. That allowed the weight to be distributed equally along the
length of the door closely simulating the glass and hardware. Check the door hinge
mounting area closely for possible cracks (metal fatigue). That can cause the clunk
but it's most likely the detent as Steven said.
