Heartbeat City door hinges

Has anyone used the repro door hinges from Heartbeat City? They say the lowers are assembled in the USA and the uppers are made in the USA. I rebuilt mine for my '68 but I'm still not real happy. I replaced the detent plate and had to tack the rivet in. place.

Re: Heartbeat City door hinges

I send all my GM hinges to Willie at HoodHingeRepair.com. After decades in the business, it it well worth it to have him rebuild door and hood hinges. Zero play is the result. The quality is superior to any rebuild kit on the market. He machines his own bushings in addition to bronze detent rollers bushings. I will not use repro hinges.

Willie did mine also. You won't find a more stand up guy than Willie.

Which rebuild kit did you use for your hinges? I used one like this https://www.camarocentral.com/1968_1..._p/dwn-524.htm and they came out great. I have not heard anything good about any of the repro door hinges. What problems did you encounter after rebuilding them?

Do not trust Heartbeat City when they state something is made in the USA.
I rebuilt mine. Relatively easy job and if you're careful and crafty you can make it look like they were never rebuilt.

Re: Heartbeat City door hinges

Hinges are easy to rebuild. The chances of getting pins and bushings with zero play is slim. I used to buy boxes of them in order to achieve this due to +/- tolerances. Nobody makes a quality 67 detent roller replacement. No repro company offers bronze bushied detent rollers for 67-69. Some repro hinges use nylon bushings which are garbage.

Re: Heartbeat City door hinges

Thank you everyone for the responses.
I used the complete kit from Heartbeat City which included the detent arms and rivets. Thats actually my complaint, I tacked the rivets in place. All the pins feel good, just too much slop in the detent plate. I'm also considering either grinding off the tacks and re-welding or buying new rivets and trying to press them on. I agree I would rather keep my originals.
