Spot paint???

Hi,

I installed the vinyl top on my 69 camaro after painting the car. A small crack in the paint happened after installing vinyl top molding. The crack place is at the top of the right quarter. The body guy want to paint the whole quarter. I asked him to paint just the spot and clear it. He said that it’s gonna show up after a while. Any thoughts

Re: Spot paint???

It is basecoat/clearcoat. The location is at the top of the right rear quarter, you see the line between the quarter and the deck filler panel. The crack is in the quarter side close to the line.

Re: Spot paint???

The pics can be seen if signed out. You can only panel to panel paint when the color is a perfect match. Otherwise, blending is required. Your damage is too close to the adjacent panel, which is why he wants to blend into the quarter. He'll have to blend into the decklid also. It'll be difficult to obtain an undetectable tapeline at the left decklid filler panel (Dutchman/tulip) seam. That molding may have to be removed to do a proper repair.
