Valve stem diameters

Anyone ever heard of using 426 hemi valves in a BBC ? I have a set of 3946074 BBC heads heavily modified by AFR before they became manufacturers, when they were doing performance work. The round exhaust ports have been made D shaped . Like the 14011077 heads . Heavily ported intake ports . The valves that I got with them are Manley 2.30 intake. I forget exhaust size . But the stems are only .309 or .310 not 3/8's like BBC. Was this common to do to lighten valve train mass ?
