Cool Re: 68 Vert stored 21 years

The 'Eddy' C3B/BX is a better intake than the C4 series anyway

Re: 68 Vert stored 21 years

Paint is Chevy Orange Red, DupliColor High Heat engine paint. Inside the garage color is way different than natural light.

Wondering what this will sound like, Z28 repro 2.25" exhaust set, no resonators. I'll be hanging exhaust tomorrow.

Common problem. Apparent when the wheel is not centered in the wheelwell. Although some don't notice and can't figure out why it's off.

Re: 68 Vert stored 21 years

so was the spring not curled-up enough at the end when built (cut short, made Friday at quitting time) or did it open up with use? All new bolts are greased or got anti-sieze as appropriate for whoever next takes the diff out

They fatigue crack, break clean through, the leaf slides forward on the bushing and the wheel is seen as off center in the wheelwell. Last job had this same problem. Look at another spring and you'll see a full wrap.

Re: 68 Vert stored 21 years

As Scott said, they crack/fail in that high fatigue area quite often.
That area of the spring is highly loaded during acceleration and on braking ...
There has been some discussion centering around the variable heat-treat in that formed area causing it to be brittle ...

I have seen a few over the years, but as that whole 'Rust' thingy is rarer down this way, not a bunch of them.
I did one from a car that was brought in from Colorado years ago that had been welded to repair it - there was a real accident waiting to happen ...
A set of JCW springs fixed that

Re: 68 Vert stored 21 years

the thought is to lay the flames out in single stage

gotcha!
The stripes will be single stage Ermine White, black rockers and lower doors, lower and upper trim. To bury the stripes would mean re-clear on header, fenders, and doors. Thinking that I'll pass on the re-clear at this point. Another reason, if I re-clear the front and middle of the car, crazy as the color and light tricks are, then the back half could look different.

My daughters and grandbabies are in town. I've been ditching class at midday for a week now

Re: 68 Vert stored 21 years

Using the factory paint/decal combo or all paint? When you lightly cut and buff the stripe, there is no longer a hard tape edge. Many say you can catch it with your fingernail and there is wax build up at the tape line. Not so if you do the job correctly. Repro RS headlight and grille assembly? Did you fit it all prior to paint? Just did one and out of the box fit was not pretty. Needed work to make it right. And people wonder why it costs so much to do a car.

Re: 68 Vert stored 21 years

stencils, all paint. yes, plan to cut and buff afterwards. Am now pretty fair at buffing.
Factory stripes were far from pretty if you see a low mile factory car..
I had some of the parts, good fit....wish me luck on the rest!
Soooo many odds and ends,
drilling out a broken off ext rear hanger 1/4" took forever. more to to to riv nut the passenger side hanger/floor mount, gotta drill the dvr rail rear hanger holes.

Time winding down. Class 1/2 days with the kids in town, ditched a few days too. The kids and grandbabies are now gone but an old racer pal will be here FRI and SAT, racing SAT in the Elky. Mounted the 295s 65 MT DRs on my 8" WELDS the other day
