the wives

i have a question for all the guys. my wife does not drive my 68 vert. never has and to be honest i would prefer she didnt although if she said she just had to i would probably let her, although with the new 480hp stroker in it i think i would have to be heavily sedated first! my question is how many of you let your wives drive your cars? nothing against women driving cars at all, just seems to be a guy thing where no one drives our cars! especially when we sink the dollars and time into them that we do. my wife drove a civic all her life until we got a new audi a4 for her to drive a couple years ago so needless to say she hasn't driven anything with balls until the A4. man that thing hauls for a 4 cylinder! anyways, curious to see what everyone has to say!

Re: the wives

Neither of my cars (Camaro and Nova) are build projects so I don't know if this counts. My wife drives the Nova when ever she wants and has driven the Camaro a couple times over the past 10 years. In our local club a lot of gals have their own cars and they drive them too!

We even have a local "gals" club here called the "Leadfoot Ladies" They have some really nice cars...

Re: the wives

My wife will probably drive my '69 when it's done- it's being built for my daughter to have as her first car, so if I trust my daughter with it, I better trust my wife....lol.

I'm also building a '65 Thumderbird for my younger daughter, that we inherited from my mother in law. I think the wife will want to drive that more than the Camaro due to the sentimental value.

Re: the wives

My wife used to drive my fully-restored 1981 Z/28 to work whenever she wanted. She's a careful driver and I trust her. After all, it's only a car. Yes-- I was nervous and wanted a full performance report the moment she pulled in the driveway, but I did. She'll probably drive my '68 and '69 too--- just not nearly as often. Too much blood, sweat and tears invested in these puppies.

Now-- if she was out there with me working on it -- even if it were 30 minutes each time I was out there... then definitely. However, I still think she just views my Camaros as metal, plastic, copper, vinyl, rubber, and glass.

Wink Re: the wives

My wife drives everything we own - cars, boats, SUVs ...
Well ... Everything but the manual/stick stuff - trucks, tractors ...
She owns half of all of them, who am I to tell her what she can drive

I'd have no reservations with her driving anything, she respects the effort I put into ll of them.

1968 Convertible
Some trucks

Re: the wives

Wife loves the M3 'Vert and likes the SS, and will ride in them - "They're your cars."
I say "They're our cars." and I would like/let her drive them, but she choses not.

Re: the wives

Camaro, when its done, NO. She cant and doesnt want to drive a stick.
Monte Carlo.I tried to get her to drive it once. She made it 10 feet and said she didnt want to hurt my baby (this was back in high school)
Offroad Tahoe solid axle on 35's.She LOVES driving this one. Shes only 4'11" so its funny seeing the looks she gets in that truck.
Silverado with the Duramax. She will/does drive it once in a while but she doesnt like to too much.

Re: the wives

Cool to see all the responses. Growing up my mom and dad's vehicles were a 62 impala ss and a 56 bel air which was given to me as my first car. My mom drove the 56 full time (except winter, never winter driven) she was 4 11" as well so pretty good stuff! Dad had a 300 hp 283 in it and she loved cracklin the "blue bottles" dad had on the car. It's a bit of a culture shock for my wife when she goes from the Audi to the camaro. Kinda like going from an opera to an ac/dc concert! Look forward to more replies!

Re: the wives

Around here I’m lucky that the BOSS let’s me drive her Camaro. The fastest cars in the garage belong to her. Sometimes she treats them like she has her own pit crew to keep her on the road, hmmm. Her size five is pretty heavy. She’s gathering parts for a Kenne Bell 331 for her ’67 Mustang. I think she is going to “claim” one of the big blocks I have in pieces too.
