68 camaro dream

Ok I have had this car for going on 2yrs and I'm not finish. A little disappointed but what's the average time period to do a frame off restoration. Just got all the metal replaced rear end rebuild font end suspension and now getting close to installing motor and trans. Just wondering on time frame

I'd say you're doing pretty good. Most guys start a frame off, and then it never gets done. If you got the sheet metal replaced, thats the hard part in my opinion. Now comes the fun part, which is the engine and trans. Put it together and have fun. You could be cruising by spring.

The important thing here is that you ask me what kind of car I've got. "I've got a BITCHIN' CAMARO"

Re: 68 camaro dream

time frame would depend on a lot of things I would think.
do you have 12 or more hours a day to work on your car
can you do all the work your self, or do you have to sub it out and wait
do you have to wait on back ordered parts
these are just a few things that I an think of
I started on mine feb. of 2011 with everything removed , bare body, and it was drivable by spring of 2012. then dec. of 2012 the body was disassembled and then painted in june

Average time hmmm...

I had a goal of 30 build days for a frame off / nut and bolt restoration on my car. That included everything except bodywork/paint. My key was having all the parts. It was a fun project especially with the 30 day goal.

As said these projects run the gambit of a few months to several decades. It all depends on your ability to keep self motivated, flush with disposable income, keep up with incoming parts management using the just in time philosophy. ...Sounding like a full time job ain't it? Bottom line is to keep her rolling along and balance life and employment demands in that mix. From my point of view you are going warp 10. Keep her steady!

Re: 68 camaro dream

I got my camaro in August of 1999, if I remember correctly, and it was "done" in June of 2010, although they never really are "done"... So for me approximately 11 years. I did get frustrated with it a couple of times over that period, and thought about giving up and selling it. Very glad I didn't, though, it's definitely worth it in the end!
