69 Camaro 383 FI swap and OD Tranny

A friend of mine told a friend of his and now I'm doing some mods on his 69.

He bought it new in 69 327 TH350 car.

He just spent big $ with a local custom shop on body, paint, custom interior, power windows and locks, etc. and DSE Suspension A-Arms, Coil Overs, and rear springs and shocks. Car looks great but performs terribly.

He hates driving the car so he brought it to me. Won't even wash it! That's why it's dirty now. Actually his son brought it says his Dad won't even look at it. Lol

Complaints:

#1 Car has no power (original 327 with a few mods) won't even spin the tires
#2 Wants EFI
#3 Wants to replace the TH350
#4 Doesn't like the way it rides (too harsh)

Wants to keep stockish looking so no LS

So here's the plan. Budget is $15K-$17.5K parts and labor

New crate 383 Stroker with FAST EFI 430 HP 450 Torque
EFI Fuel Tank and in-tank pump
700R4 with custom convertor
3.55 Gears
Larger Radiator to support the motor and AC with Dual Fans and Dakota Digital Fan Control

I still have to see what's up with the suspension. No travel on the front end at all. My guess is wrong springs. Either too soft and compressed all the way to get ride height or too stiff. Also probably wrong shocks on the rear for a street car.

Car looks better then the lousy pictures I took.

Good plan but I would go 2004r over the 700r4. Better gearing.

I'm ordering tomorrow. I will be looking at the 200 as well. They run about $150 more then the 700. Ratios are really not that much different.

200r4 2.74 1.57 1.00 0.67
700r4 3.06 1.62 1.00 0.70

Yes it a custom dash All the center section metal was cut out and moved over. The dash pad was sectioned and recovered.

4L60E would require a little tunnel mod and an electronic controller. Trying to keep it simple

Re: 69 Camaro 383 FI swap and OD Tranny

This might be an Idea 6 Speed tranny in a 700R4 case

From Bowtie Overdrives

Full 4L65E (2005-6 Trans) Drive Train Retro Fitted into a 700R4
A/C Delco 5 Pinion Planetary Set
Full Torrington Bearings Throughout
THIS MEANS NO THRUST WASHERS
Reinforced Bushings covering 50% more surface area for High Torque/High Horsepower applications.
Also if you want even more we offer a Hardened Input Carrier for $175.00 (Special Order Only Must Call)

Look at the terrible spacing between first and second. Horrible.

That's nice. How much do they want for this? Wait, thought you wanted to stay away from electronic control?

Electronic control means no TV cable to mess with, programmable shift points and firmness etc.

Not terrible if you want to smoke tires off the line. For a track car looking for best ET maybe.

The 6 speed in the 700 case is $3000.

Won't be using it on this build. Just thought it was interesting

Yes, we all know what electronic controls do and mean. If you had read all the posts you would see that Vegas stated that he didn't want an electronic trans, that he wanted to keep it simple.

Re: 69 Camaro 383 FI swap and OD Tranny

TV cables work perfectly on 100,000s of cars and trucks made by GM for years.

The 4L60E is a tight fit and the tunnel has to be modded the clear the tranny cooling lines.

The custom interior, carpet and console are in place and don't want to start tearing into it.

Sorry Chet. Please accept my sincere apologies. I should have known better than to participate in a thread in which you have posted without getting your approval of my post prior to posting. Carry on....

And I did read all the posts first. Maybe you should get a life outside of policing this forum for guys posting similar thoughts or ideas...
