Poor Mans Plating

I've always been pleased with VHT paints but was particulary impressed with the finish of this one.....

Only the bottom face/contact area of the seat stop (with phillips head) was painted and as you can see (hopefully ?), the paint is a perfect match. Not sure what the original finish is, maybe silver cadmium ? The plastic knob is unpainted.

Re: Poor Mans Plating

Hi Steven, well, ya got me on that...I didn't, however from the instructions on the can, primer is recommended. Jury (me) is still out on durability, but so far it seems pretty tough. Have installed the latch on the seat and opened/closed the seatback several times and hasn't left a mark yet.

Looks a lot better then the "chrome" spray paint I got from killer cans for like 40 dollars. It was just silver.

Re: Poor Mans Plating

This is basically just a silver paint with a high degree of reflectivity. Certainly doesn't duplicate the appearance of chrome, but it's the closest I've seen from a paint. I'm only using it for these little bits & pieces that I believe were originally silver cad plated....someone correct me if I'm wrong ?? I think it's an excellent match for this. Was around $9 through Amazon.
