Argon/CO2 use

Hello folks,
Can anyone tell me how long a 40 CF Argon/CO2 bottle will last, assuming a constant lit mig torch(knowing the stinger will not be lit constantly).Maybe 1 hr or several hours?
In other words is a 40 CF bottle worth purchasing. I'm a novice welder and only use my welder on rare occasions around the garage and maybe building work stands etc.
Thanks for any input

Re: Argon/CO2 use

I use a twenty and a 40. I always seem to start a project on Friday night when I run out which puts me waiting until Monday to refill. Depending on your regulator setting the time that last varies. I think I set my regulator to about 7 CFH so the 20 lasts me just less than 3 hours of actual gas flow. I seem to go in streaks, I'll weld alot for a few days then nothing for months. That might be a contributing factor to always running out at the start of a new project.

Re: Argon/CO2 use

We have the 40 at work just incase we run out. I've used the 40 at home building some shelves before,it lasted two weekends worth of welding,so maybe 2~3 hrs of welding.(I run 15 cfh or so)

I bought an 80 for my home garage, good size for home projects. I paid just under $200 for the used bottle about $40 to fill with 75/25. I wouldn't buy a 40 unless it was real cheap, like free. get an 80 min.
