4th Generation Steering Column Disassembly
Hello everyone, I have a steering column from a 1993 v6 Camaro (among other parts from the car) which is going to be used in a knockoff Lotus 7 I'm building. My problem is I need to modify the steering column, or ditch the Camaro column altogether and replace it with something else. But I need to get it apart; I have the column out of the car, the steering wheel is off, and at that point I'm kind of stuck. I can see a circlip retainer by the airbag sensor, and there is a metal spring that looks to hold the bearing in on the firewall end of the column, but beyond that I'm lost.
Is there any guide or pictoral instructions on how to take this bloody thing apart? I do have a Chilton manual, but as with most of those Chilton/Haynes books, it's completely worthless and doesn't even cover REMOVING the steering column, much less taking it apart.
