68 Horseshoe Shifter Question

We are putting a 68 horseshoe shifter in a 72 GMC truck custom console. Could someone please give me the height of the top of the shifter above the shifter plate with the shifter vertical (reverse I believe). I would appreciate the info!

Re: 68 Horseshoe Shifter Question

my car is in a million pieces so I can't tell you how much shifter is above the console but the console is 4 inches from the floor to the shift plate.

Re: 68 Horseshoe Shifter Question

Thanks Jeff. I'll see if I can figure it out from the floor up.

Re: 68 Horseshoe Shifter Question

You're welcome. Shouldn't be too hard, I don't know where my shifter is but the console was at the top of the pile. Stand the shifter on a table put the lever straight up , measure, subtract four inches and you're good to go.

Re: 68 Horseshoe Shifter Question

The top of my 69 Camaro's shifter sit 5 inches above console. I don't know what trans you are using, but I converted mine from power gluide to 700r4 and the shifter upgrade with new glass works good. and people at car shows look at it and think its stock....J

Re: 68 Horseshoe Shifter Question

Thanks for the info! I will post some pics when I get to that stage. The shifter assy in the 68-69 Camaro is so cool I had to incorporate it into this truck.
