Help Decoding Mustang VIN Plate

Please forgive my wife, she wants a 64- 66 Mustang. I found one of interest but have no idea how decode this VIN plate. Can anyone help? Does the plate look original?

Thanks
Jim

Wink Re: Help Decoding Mustang VIN Plate

That looks like a data plate inside the drivers door vs. the orignal black plate under the hood on the drivers side front structure (at edge of fender) ...

Decode for 6T07A145327;
6 = model year 1966
T = Ford Metuchen, NJ (Edison) final assembly plant (where all Shelby's were built, but engine code would be a 'K' )
07 = Coupe
A = 289/225HP 4 barrel
145327 = sequential registration number

It's a "Luxury" edition coupe (65B) model with the upgraded Black Luxury interior. (66)
The original color was "Vintage Burgundy" (X)
Assembled on Nov. 25th for a special order from a Boston sales region dealer (25 L11)

Hopefully the above is close - but I suck at Ford info

The registered VIN should be the 6T07A145327 number still - if different run away ...

You're just afraid to admit you know something about Fords also

I have an excuse of sorts - they put me through college - but still not a huge fan of their later products (with a few exceptions*)

* = I will still take a few of their products if they were a good enough deal
- Any 50's F-100
- An early 50's 'vert (relative had one and I loved riding in it) maybe like the one in Santa Cruz right now with a 'flathead' in it
- 65~66 Mustang Fastback w/"K-code" ...
- 68~69 Torino GT Fastback (either 390 or 428) in gold/black with American 200s'
- maybe even another 32 roadster ...

Re: Help Decoding Mustang VIN Plate

There should also be a notch cut out of the drivers side fender, under the hood, with the VIN stamped into the inner fender. If you're worried about originality make sure they all match. Door plate, under hood plate, title and inner fender stamping.

'Original' first gen. Mustangs are probably more rare than original Camaros. Lots of mixing and matching of parts over the years. If you and your wife like the car and it's something that you can work with. Don't worry about numbers.

My wife likes them too. Look at my sig...
