1971 350 engine codes

I'm trying to decode a friends 350. The engine codes are as follows.
3970010

Pasenger side
111216517
K0625CGC

I'm sure I found the 3970010 and the K0625CGC (245 HP 2 bbl.)
I can't find anything on the 111216517 number.
Also it now has a 4bbl and headers so he was wondering if it was still other wise stock what the HP may be.

Thanks

Re: 1971 350 engine codes

11L216517 is the partial VIN stamp for a 1971 El Camino (the CGC suffix) built at the Los Angeles plant.

As to what the HP might be with mods, you'd have to take all the long block specs (cam, compression ratio, etc) and the mods (4 bbl, intake?, headers) and plug into a desk top dyno type program. I am guessing it would still be less than 300 HP at the crank.

Maybe check your numbers again to verify.

If it is 11L216517 it MIGHT be from a Chevy full size - most likely an Impala. It is definitely NOT a Camaro VIN. And does not appear to be from a Chevelle either. VINs for Chevelles at Van Nuys (L) ended around 185929 in 1971. See these links. I believe the information there is correct.

Oh, and K0625CGC - That can't start with a K. No engines (to my knowledge) were assembled in Kansas City.

CGC was used for the Impala, Camaro, Chevelle (including Monte Carlo and El Camino). That engine APPEARS to be from an Impala, not that it really matters.

68 Camaro SS 396 - 468 BBC now, M21, 12 bolt 3.73 coded housing but w/ 3.31 gears.
Looking for 68 Camaro with body number NOR 181016

Thanks alot, that's alot more than he had. I'm not sure if he wants to tear it down to get exact information because it runs great.
Thanks again.

Re: 1971 350 engine codes

P.S It is a K in the code. From what I could find that means St. Catherines, Ontario.
So the K0625CGC means,
St. Catherines, June, 25, 245 hp, 2 bbl
Ofcourse this means just the engine and not the car.

Re: 1971 350 engine codes

OK, I was not thinking Canadian - eh?
St. Catherines, Ontario (McKinnon Industries Canada)

111216517 - then that is the partial VIN. Decoded
First 1 - Chevrolet
Second 1 - 1971
Third 1 - Oshawa, Ontario, Canada
Last six of VIN - 216517
I still think it might be from an Impala.
