Cracked Spark Plugs

I just removed the spark plugs from my van and noticed that several of them were cracked. Would this be something that would decrease their performance?

If you park in a dark area at night and fire it up...it should look like sparklers on the fourth near the plugs

Re: Cracked Spark Plugs

Replace them all.
And take that piece of rubber out that's inside your spark plug socket. It'll bust the porcelain if the socket isn't perfectly straight the entire time it's on the plug.

Yes...the insulator (porcelain) is there for a reason.

Re: Cracked Spark Plugs

Cause...
I buy plugs by the box....All it needs is some idiot drop a box, or plug and crack the very brittle cermaics.
The other most common causes are during fitting, then drop the plug on the concret floor... not hand starting threads the plug sits crocked in the socket.

My Spelling is not incorrect...it is creative

Re: Cracked Spark Plugs

These plugs were in a van I just bought. I couldn't get them out so I chad to get someone else to do it for me. He had to actually place it on a lift to get to them all. Three were rusted solid at the base, and all of them were cracked.

After changing both plugs and wires, this thing runs a lot better now!

Re: Cracked Spark Plugs

They could have been cracked when they were removed.
How did the insulators and electrodes look?

Re: Cracked Spark Plugs

If it ran decent before the change, they were cracked taking them out - it would run bad with one cracked plug, and more than one would run very very bad.
