Re: Vortec L31 truck throwing codes
See, that's what I'm thinking too, at idle, especially after a long drive it smells extremely "metallic" if that makes sense, I can smell a funky carbon odor and it would appear that's it was burned at a very high temp, which leads me to believe it'd be the cat.
It also has a rough idle problem very intermittently, on occasion the idle will also fluctuate from 500-1,000 when the a/c kicks on and off. I know the fuel spider is a problem with all of the vortecs. I also had to tighten the intake down in '02 because the bolts were hand tight and coolant was leaking like a faucet.
The truck has passed emissions testing every time, everything was well below the state's requirements.
I'm going to get new cap, rotor, plugs, and wires tomorrow for the heck of it, everything on the truck is the way it rolled out, so I'm just replacing those because it needs it anyway.
Runs flawlessly other than a few idle issues, never stalled, popped, sputterd etc... runs well under load and WOT.
