Re: What size rear is this?

Most likely it's a 7.5, unless it's a former police, fire or taxi. But even then.....

Re: What size rear is this?

should be a 7.5, unless it's got a BOP 8.5 in it.. those are the ones with the goofy cover with the big indentations on each side and the pressed on axle bearings.
got any pics?

you don't plan sincerity.
you have to make it up on the spot.

wanna hear about 20 years ago when i was too smart to know any better?

Its the 8.5. I still dont get why i cant post pictures on this forum. The code on the rear tag reads 2LA-B 2.41. Ive found quite a few b bodies with the 2.41 8.5 rear. I was told they were basically leftover rears from the 73-77 chevelle. same attachment points for everything...supposedly the chevelle frame was pirated and slightly modified for the caprice.

Re: What size rear is this?

you can post pics by hosting them somewhere else and using "img" tags to link to them here.. facebook is a good place to host pics if you have an account- and if you want to put it here, you just look at the pic on facebook, refresh the page, right click on the pic, select "copy image location".. then come here, paste the url in between the 'img' tags, and it will show.. like this:

hit the "quote" button to see how it's formatted.. the url for the pic is in between the [img] tags..

and, yes, the 77-96 B body chassis is the 73-77 A body chassis with a few changes- the most significant of which is a stupid transmission crossmember design..

you don't plan sincerity.
you have to make it up on the spot.

That may be true as the frames between the 2 models were similar if not identical. But then it also may be true that some swapped it in.

The "small" caprice had, at that point, been out for 2 models years. They had that many "leftover" 8.5 10 bolts?

i am personally not buying it.

Youre more than welcome to come to CT and use my creeper to see for yourself. The car is 1 owner and definately has the original rear, as i have spoken to and verified from the original owner. As a member of 2 impala, chevelle, buick, and camaro forums, that is what i have pieced together. "left over" or not, thats the rear its got.

Re: What size rear is this?

UPDATE:
Ok, i can't (and won't) speak for nova, but i was wrong; Apparently the b bodies up until at least 90 had the 8.5" 10 bolt. This is actually good to know.

2) The BOP 10 bolts stopped in 72, so that's out. Besides it's b.o. and p so.......

So, good for you and this is good info to know as b-bodies might be good rodding material now.

Re: What size rear is this?

The 8.5 in my Camaro is from a '79 Nova. V8 Novas in '79 got the 8.5, 6 bangers got the 7.5 - no reason to think the big cars would be any different.
