Question Durango overhead console looking at me!

'06 Durango with overhead console that shows compass\temp\MPG and all that.
I looked through the manual and can't find this in there at all...

Pointing right at me just under the drivers side courtesy light is what looks like a tiny camera lens. It creeps me out!
There's a place for an identical one on the passenger side but it's not installed.
What the heck is it? I can't figure out what it could be for... it must sense something... or someone is watching me!

It's probably Big Brother watching you. Try flipping it off and see what happens to your bank accounts, etc.

Actually I think it's a temp sensor.

If you have a auto setting on the climate controll then its more than likely one of the sensors for the system. But you can always go with a nice tinfoil hat and piece of black tape to keep the shivers up the spine to a minimum.

Yep, temp sensor. You can take off the tin foil hat now.

Re: Durango overhead console looking at me!

So it senses interior temp? Hmmm... wonder if the A/C will blow colder if I hold my finger on it?

Re: Durango overhead console looking at me!

Joe,

It is an Infrared Sensor for the temperature. Some cameras can detect the infrared light. The Iphone 4s does work using the face-time camera only because the regular lens has a IR filter. A video camera with nite vision or nite vision goggles work well. Beam me up Joe....
