2009 Caddilac CTS: passenger door wont open.

For about 3 months I haven't been able to open my passenger side front door on my 2009 CTS (standard, not keyless, rwd). Won't open from inside or out. The lock is stuck in the locked position.

I didn't really care too much because I'm the only person in it normally but today my blower motor went out. Its darn cold out so I'm trying to fix this...

Tried taking it out to see what's wrong but I got stuck. I need to open the door that won't open.

Any ideas on how to open the door?

I did a google search and found a guy with the same problem as you
he even posted a picture of his beautiful Camaro
you may have to get a lock smith. some members of the fire dept. carry the same tools as a lock smith
flat tire is online now

This car doesn't have a key'd lock on the passenger side.

I might try that in a bit...

When you hit the inside or outside door handles on the stuck door can you hear the actuator trying to unlock the latch? If not you will have to remove the door panel and then manually open the door and replace the actuator.

Unfortunately I cant. What worse is the door panel is sandwiched between the door and door frame.

Yes I realize the panel might get trashed in the removal process, but it might not google a few samples of removing stuck doors inner panels. If it is not reusable in the end it is the cheaper cost of getting it open because the only other way to access the latch is to cut into the door outer skin.

Have you priced a door from a wrecked vehicle it might be cheaper. The dealership might be able to overload the actuator and pop it open and then replace the unit.

Used doors are running 750.

Seems a bit steep to fix it don't it?

What did the dealership quote to pop the door open for you? Take the least but factor in the door may not be the same color and you want to look stylish so that may also add to the price. If you can live without passengers or a working passenger door go with that and hope some time you don't get pinned in a parking space and have to wait for the other owner to arrive to let you in LOL

Re: 2009 Caddilac CTS: passenger door wont open.

Couldn't get the door open but I did manage to get the blower out. Once I removed the cladding under the glove box and the glove box I had access to the blower. The problem was the bar that holds the glove box and cladding is about 3" thick. It only needs to be 1" so I took out the grinder and fixed the design flaw. The 1" I removed is hidden behind the cladding so nobody will ever know.

Got the motor out and tested it. It had areas in the rotation that showed open continuity. Tried to remove the fan drum but that didn't happen. Then I figured out how to pop open the back. I was able to pound the motor out of the housing so I could get to the guts.

I first sprayed the inside with WD40. I used it not for lube (but that always helps) but rather to clean the brushes, etc inside. It's great stuff for electronics.

I then noticed the springs for the brushes down by blower part of the assembly. I got out my contact cleaner and shot some in there. Plugged it back in and it's working for now. Enough to hold me off until the replacement comes in. It's WAY too cold to drive around without heat! Yesterday sucked! I figure I can just run it when I need it and not abuse it too much Monday and Tuesday. The new one should be in Tuesday night.

...and the [email protected] door still won't open!

I'm done with GM garbage. No more modern GM cars after this. Part of the reason I won't even look at an LS motor...

Wow, 2009 luxury vehicle and its falling apart? I looked at a CTS in 2010 when looking for a good new car for my wife, she didn't like them and we bought a Lexus. I thought they were supposed to be good vehicles, I'm glad I bought the Lexus now..... sad.

Good luck with it, once I got the door working the next stop would be the car lot for that thing.

I've had my 07 base CTS for a few years and it's been a good car. I bought it used and have had no major problems. The car had 30K when I bought it, and it now has 87K.

Almost exactly the same: bought at 25k, now has 85k.

35k: GM gave me a new engine.

50k: I bought a new starter

60k: car door gave me an opportunity to tell other people no when they asked for lifts.

85k: blower motor decided it liked winter temps. Inside the car.

We're trying to move or I'd be at a car dealership right now...

Was the engine deal because of the timing chain recall?

Re: 2009 Caddilac CTS: passenger door wont open.

Nope. Oil consumption took out the whole engine.

New engine has the timing chain issue fixed. It's a 2013 engine.
