Go-Kart kit for 13 year-old

Hi,

I'm guessing that somebody's got experience with this.

A good friend is looking for a go-cart for a 13 year-old. Not looking for track racing, messing around in fields. A build it kit is preferred as his budget is small. They're comfortable turning wrenches.

Do you have experience with or can provide recommendations for a kit? No title or VIN necessary. :-)

thanks!

Best bet is to already buy one assembled as the price will be better in the long run, by the time you buy an engine, clutch setup etc... But if you are trying to get in cheap, you can either build your own chassis, off of downloadable blueprints. Just google search it. Or, if you aren't particular on the shape or design, buy an empty Craigslist rolling chassis. Then a Harbor Freight engine for about 200, and clutch setup for around the same price. Here is a good website for ones around 1k with free shipping, complete.

Re: Go-Kart kit for 13 year-old

I went thru this a few years back with my daughter when she was 11. We ordered one of those 1000.00 110cc off road go karts for her for Christmas and the thing never showed up so I went out and found a used yerf dog 150cc for 700.00 a few days before Christmas.

A week later the 110 cc showed up and it was tiny. I resold the new kart and we kept the 150 Yerf. She rode it for a few years and then I stepped her up to an FL350 Odyssey that she & I restored together.

She is 16, almost 17 now and she still rides her Odyssey when we go out. We still have the Yerf dog and my youngest started driving it at 6 years old. She is 10 now and still loves it, so I would highly recommend buying more kart than you think you need that way you can enjoy it for years to come.

I hope this helps & good luck..

Thanks FTF for the referral and Rarerat for the pictures and advice! I'll pass it on.

Who knows, my kids are 8 and 10, maybe this will be something for me to think about in a few years too?

Re: Go-Kart kit for 13 year-old

I recently bought 2 running driving yerf-dogs 150's for $500 from a church camp. Good deals are out there if you look hard enough.
