1972 chevy transfer case

1972 3/4 ton chevy transfer case. it is with a 3 speed transmission. anyone know where on the unit I can find some numbers as to identify it as a NP 205 or a NP 203, or any physical features that would show one or the other.
I looked the best I could and did not find any tag
any idea of the value?
thanks

Re: 1972 chevy transfer case

205 (gear driven) is pretty high on the wants lists....203 chain driven....not so much.

Being a 3/4 T....pretty sure it should be a 205.
Mine had a round tag with a bolt in the middle.

Re: 1972 chevy transfer case

The internet has pictures. You can look at them and then at the TC to see which it is.
Chances are its a 205. Also, on a 205 in the back there's a little round cover about 2" in diameter.

Re: 1972 chevy transfer case

A NP 203 is a full time 4wd transfer case UNLESS it has been converted. As said above, it is chain driven where the NP 205 is gear driven. The 203 has lower gears than a 205. and the 203 is about 40 pounds heavier.

Also, the 205 is "flat faced" across the front, where the 203 has a rounded front until you get to the chain, and the 205 will have a 3 bolt cover on the back that covers one of the idler shafts.
