Registration in Minnesota

Hi Everybody.

I have been dreaming of owning a camaro since my schooldays but here in South Africa they are impossible to find. If things work out, my company will grant a transfer to Minnesota later this year and this might be my chance of finally buying a project to restore. I am looking on ebay at projects and they seem rediculously expensive. I stumbled upon a site that sells salvage vehicles and they have nice projects for under $12000. The question is, would it be worth buying one of these and get it on the road again in Minnesota? There are also a car on ebay currently that has no title, what"s the deal with this? How difficult would it be to get a cur without a title on the road again?

I still have another 6 months or so to go but I am soooo excited (Obviously not only about the camaro) that I cant wait and thought it would be good to look around. Are there any other places I can find these cars (In a decent project condition) except for Craigslist and Ebay?

I dont mind replacing quarters, fenders and the usual stuff but I dont really want to fiddle with roof replacements and so on. There is a Z28 (Supposidly) but it is rust to pieces, I dont want that...... I know it sounds confusing but I think you know what I mean..... I also dont really mind the drivetrain as I'd like to go LS.....

Thanks to everybody for reading. Hope to write to you soon from Minnesota.

Re: Registration in Minnesota

What site are you looking at? Some of those salvage/theft-recovery sites are scams from what I hear.

Re: Registration in Minnesota

The Salvage sites are a scam. IMHO

Ebay is ok.

My personal rules:

Don't buy a car unless you can see it in person.

Don't buy a car without a title

Don't buy a car with a missing or altered VIN Tag.

Don't buy a car that the VIN tag does not match the hidden VINs

Good Luck with your transfer and welcome to the club.

Thanks to everybody who reponded. Yes, i can believe that the salvage sites is a scam. No contact details etc.... the rules posted above seems like a good policy. I think I will check things out better when I'm there. I will however keep looking on ebay and craigslist just to get an idea on pricing.

Again, thanks to all the replies

Re: Registration in Minnesota

Also, if you've never been around these old Camaros before, find someone near you who knows them and their potential problems....and take them with you when you look at one lol.

Re: Registration in Minnesota

Agreed on all counts above.

Search Craigslist Minneapolis. There are a few projects on there right now. I've lived in MN my entire life and there are TONS of cars around here. Like above, get here and get settled, then start the hunt.

Good luck!
