LS7 heads

Buddy of mines son picked up a used Z06 that for all intents seems to be a lo milage garage queen. He already threw a half shaft. He was at a weekend car show this past and came home jammering about valve guides after hanging with other Z06 drivers. The question is why not replace the heads but with who's?

Re: LS7 heads

How did he blow a half shaft already? Unless the engine has been moddd or running sticky tires.

If his valve guides are not an issue what's the concern. I had a C6 Z with no issues and an LS7 in my 69. Never had any problems

Re: LS7 heads

Hey John. He lowered the car, put stickies on it, and went autocrossing. Said he hooked up in a drift and the half shaft let go. He heard about the head issue at the car show. According to professor google there is a random valve guide issue in LS7's up to around 2014. If you have it and let it go you are going to swallow a valve. Some guys elect to change out the guides as a preventative measure. Anyway, he was looking past that to aftermarket heads and perhaps another cam.

Re: LS7 heads

Imho no after market heads are worth it over the stock GM heads.

You can change the guides and go with stainless steel exhaust valves.

A cam swap will yield 100 hp. I like the Texas Speef LS7 cams. Would also look at Brian Tooley for a cam and do the trunion upgrade on the rockers.
