Side Marker Lights ... Removal

General question regarding this practice. Vehicles were required to come from the factory with these after 1967.

What is your pulse on the practice of guys like us removing them? I know Chip Foose does it without batting an eye on about every car he touches.

To be clear, I am talking about remove them and weld in the openings ... GONE.

I have a project that I am considering doing this to. Are there any strong thoughts among the members of Team Camaro.

I'll add: I'm not thinking of doing it to my Camaro. Mine is a 67 and it is absent these lights to begin with.

I can't complain, but sometimes I still do.

Re: Side Marker Lights ... Removal

I think it reduces the small safety factor those lights provide and gives no actually visual benefit to the overall style of the vehicle.

If it was a high dollar original it would hurt my feelings to change anything. Other than that, I would say go for it if thats what you like. You could always make some nice templates for locating them if you ever changed your mind and wanted to put them back.

It's my 73 Mach1. While it is a *Q-code* car with a 4 speed and A/C which might make it as desirable as one of these cars gets ... it's just not a sought after Mustang year under any circumstances.

The high dollar stuff ended in 1971 with the Boss 351 and the 429CJ cars in this body style.

I can't complain, but sometimes I still do.

Its all going to hinge on the regulations in your state.

Re: Side Marker Lights ... Removal

They were missing on my 68 (O3C car) and no clue who/when removed....but they are there now.

I do like them on the car now due to color (Burgundy)....when it was white, I could take or leave.

Re: Side Marker Lights ... Removal

Their inclusion was part of the Fed safety improvements, and had to either be reflective or illuminated - most vehicle designers in Detroit at the time did both. As stated check with the state DMV that your vehicle is registered in for any inspection rules with regard to side markers. Better $afe then $$$$$orry.
