Side terminal batteries

Are batteries with side terminals and without top terminals a thing of the past?

I think a lot of the less expensive, will fit type batteries have both, but my Interstate doesn't. I actually paid less for it too. There's other batteries that are side connection only too.

Re: Side terminal batteries

Most auto parts stores will order a direct fit battery if asked. It just cheaper for them to stock a universal fit with both side and top terminal configuratio.

Thanks,

Jeff

Re: Side terminal batteries

I need a 34/78 for my john deere that doesnt have top terminals. I fitted it with the larger battery a couple decades ago. Its under the intake piping and i have to resize if i have to go back. If i find one i like i think i would use it in my trunk mount too. I didnt find a way on interstates web site to just scroll through their type availabilities.

Re: Side terminal batteries

Saw a new Optima 78 with only side terminals yesterday so they are still out there.
