1991 Camaro RS fuel problem

ok when i got the car i was told all it needed was a fuel pump....So i replaced the fuel pump ran fine for like one day...Then the next day went out side to start it and it didnt start so i listened for the fuel pump to hum no hum so i droped the tank again thinking it was something i done wrong with the wiring well nothing wrong...but still no start....so i tryed the relay...nothing...ecu...nothing...oil pressure sensor....nothing..but see here is the thing if i undo the positive wire on the batt let it reset the ecu then i will start but only for a sec and thats if the fuse is in the bypass....so i dont know what to do can anyone help me here?????

Re: 1991 Camaro RS fuel problem

vehicle anti theft system interrupts the fuel flow so that the car cant be stolen without the proper key...check the resistor in the key...you can do this at the dealer...if its good, the problem is (and is most common)in the column in the wires connecting the ign switch contacts to the computer...you need to remove the steering wheel to repair this problem, but its a fairly easy fix...

Re: 1991 Camaro RS fuel problem

Fuel pump comes on for two seconds by the ECM when ign key is turned to IGN.

If you believe VATS may be the culprit, attempt to start the first time. Turn off, remove key. Wait 3-4 minutes, then restart using the same key. The engine should run till you shut it off. If this keeps doing the 3 minute trick then yes, you need a new switch tumbler under the steering wheel, as kustom suggests. Security light comes on as a 'bulb check' for one second.

Re: 1991 Camaro RS fuel problem

Very well could be the electrical portion of the switch. All the connectors on the HEI plugged in?

A VATS decoder would be nice in your arsenal of tools. If not, yank the steering wheel and look for the orange wire broken coming out of the ignition lock cylinder.Your Chevy dealer can read your key and supply you with the new coded cyl and the correct pellet to work with your VATS module.

Re: 1991 Camaro RS fuel problem

Excellent! You might need a new sender if the one there is leaking/oozing.
