problem

i may need a bigger fuel pump.i just put an lt4 383 stroker in my car.it also has the tpis dual 58mm throtle body kit on it.dont know what size injectors.i just put this in my 94 z28.it runs ok when it first starts but when i drive it an few mins it loses the power.i just have the stock fuel pump and i dont think it is enough.i want to put an inline fuel pump in so i dont have to drop the tank.has anyone had this problem and what fuel pump do you recomend?

Re: problem

first things first. what does the upgrade specs for fuel pressure on what you did. second what is factory pressure. if it all checks out good than need a pressure guage on the fuel to see if thats your problem of losing pressure. maybe a clogged cat converter for you to lose power

Re: problem

could be clogged fuel filter...also, check the volume required for the new injection, but i would think that if the pump couldnt support the motor, then you would never have good power, not loose power after a few minutes...for an inline pump, you should remove the intank pump to remove the restriction, so dropping the tank is gonna happen one way or another...the filter is a cheap thing to start with...keep us informed...

Re: problem

as me and kustom said need pressures and volume. all gm vehicles got a pump on motor early styles. later styles run out of fuel tank. or electric pump out of a fuel cell of which not factory. fords had a pickup pump in tank than a primary pump for the pressure.so your question to put an extra pump.i dont know never did it just put right pump where it belonged for the updated parts i put on a car.

Re: problem

some cars used what they called a "lift" pump to bring fuel at low pressure out of the tank, then a "pressure" pump to increase pressure to the desired amount for the motor...i dont believe you want to do that in your case...lift pumps are designed to flow alot of fuel at low pressure...your pump is designed to flow a specific volume and pressure, therefore you can only pull so much through it...you can get alot more gas to flow through a firehose than a gardenhose if i can use an offpage example...you would be trying to pull alot lo fuel through a gardenhose when you really need to pull a higher volume through a firehose...hope that helps...ps, there are alot of stock pumps that can put out 70 or so gpm...what r the sys req`s

Re: problem

true...that would lean it out, but should also set the fan on right???i forget if it goes hot or cold, but believe it to be hot that the comp will read...

Re: problem

if the sensor is unplugged or the element is cracked(during engine install), it wont turn the fan on.

Re: problem

i have also seen a knock sensor do this. It will give a false signal and retard the timing, and lean the motor out.......

Re: problem

most of my experience is with oem stuff...i`m not real versed with aftermarket stuff...but when you unplug the temp sensor on an oem, the mil light goes on and the fan goes on...frason is the comp cant get a proven reading.fan goes on for protection...at least thats my experience...course, i been known to be wrong too...lol...

Re: problem

I believe the actual TPIS product is a closed loop circuit, yes. But I am not sure have to read up on them. If it is, it narrows down the troubleshooting process......

Re: problem

i am not sure the fan has come on for me in the past when I unplugged the sensor, however the light did come on.
depending on the vehicle a 3K ohm resistor works WONDERS!
