oil leak by console gauge

Hi TC, I have a '69 RS with a ZZ4 350. After driving approx. 20 miles, noticed there was oil leaking from my console gauges. My oil pressure was consistently around 60 psi at 55mph. What a mess...lost about a quart of oil and all over my carpet. I took apart my console and tried to repair it, but still notice it leaking at the line going into the fitting by gauge. Read previous posts, I noticed I didn't have that little piece that goes to the end of my nylon line before the gauge?? All mine had was the brass nut and sleeve. I'm thinking about replacing my line to a different type if there are any out there or should I stick with the nylon type? Is there a kit that would include the line with necessary hardware? I found a couple at Classics, but not too sure which one I need. Can someone tell me where the other end of the oil line goes on my ZZ4? And one last question, how do I clean up this oil mess without replacing my carpet? Seriously...what products can I use? Sorry for the d--b questions. Thanks in advance...paul

Re: oil leak by console gauge

On the ZZ4 your oil line should be right next to your distributor (drivers side). Are you running stock factory gauges? The one Classic sells for factory console gauges is correct. I know someone sells a metal line kit out there but I don't have a link for it. My buddy runs them only. The reason I ask if there factory because if not, you can install a electric AutoMeter gauge which removes the oil line completely.
The gold unit next to the dist is the electric oil sending unit but that is also where the oil line is connected to a fitting if using factory gauges.

Not correct for the factory oil pressure guage. The factory unit requires the 2 piece ferrol, a crush sleeve like aftermarket kits and an piece that goes in the opening of the guage...

Re: oil leak by console gauge

Thanks guys for the responses. Great picture Dennis. My car has the factory gauges on. I do have a 90 degree brass fitting on the gauge to prevent hose from kinking (came with car when I bought it). Should I just eliminate this fitting to prevent oil from leaking in more areas? This one ferrol missing that goes to the gauge, how do I put it on? Does it install on the tip of the line? Should I stick with the Nylon type line or go with a braided type if they make 'em?

Re: oil leak by console gauge

Buy the correct one from Ricks or Classic, you will notice a bigger and longer crush sleeve. I used oil absorb mats between the carpet and mat to soak up the oil.

Re: oil leak by console gauge

I ordered #3906192 console gauge oil line and #kw321 block fitting (engine side) from Classic Ind. Spoke to their tech suppt. (Edd), he doesn't know of an extra ferrol that goes on the gauge. There are only the ferrols (sleeve) that goes on both ends of the line. If I do need it, where do I get it from and part #? I did get some oil absorbant mats and planning on using Simple Green for the floor mats. Thanks! paul.

Re: oil leak by console gauge

Head down to the local hydrolic service center for industrial applications
pick up copper capilary tube and fittings and ferrels
I T the gauge and idiot light off the takeoff point beside the Dizzy

To clean the carpet....remove all the carpets and clean at the same time.
lay them out on the driveway
A bucket of hot water and a couple cups of laundry detergent power.
Miosten the carpet with the hose
Throw the hot water/ detergent mix over... give a bit of a scrub leave for 10mins and another scrub 4 or 5 times...let the detergents do most of the work... dont let dry out
Hang on the cloths line, then wash out with a water blaster...not too close, or the hose on fine jet.
let dry out.

My Spelling is not incorrect...it is creative
