Re: problem.

Yikes... me think some exploratory surgery is in order first. She's gonna have to come apart so you can inspect those bearings.

383's could be built a few different ways. The mains for sure will be 350 size. The rods could either be 350 or 400, depending on which rods. Check the crankpins for scoring or other nastyness, and check the back of the bearing shells for a number. They could be marked 001 for slightly undersized to make up for wear (and the top and bottom halves could be different) or they could be marked 010 or 020 noting the crank has been regorund. You need to make sure you get the right bearings.

Also, they don't do this for no reason... tho running the motor out of oil is often reason enough. Still she's gonna need a teardown.

darned good point.
also possible for the bolts to hit stuff, or the flexplate to be in backwards causing bolts to hit stuff...

Re: problem.

you need to get her apart and do some diagnoses before you start spending money.

Also, unless it's really bad, firing her up for an experienced ear to listen too would be a good idea. It's pretty easy to tell a rod knock, for example, much different than the regular tapping cused by an astray mechanical part.

As for what it will cost, that's gonna depend on what's wrong.
