Failed emissions help

I have a 95 z28 camaro, failed emissions on the low speed half.

I'm getting high co, HC, and nox readings, any tips to bring those down?

Yes, And all filters!

Make sure engine is HOT. Drive 10-15 munites or more and run the dogdirt out of it RIGHT BEFORE the test. Try not to shut it off. You want to keep the catalytic converter good and hot.....Jb

Re: Failed emissions help

I had the same issue with my 68 as I royally flunked my initial test. Went to local Autozone and grabbed a bottle (OK, maybe two) of what ever crap it is that guarantees to pass emissions or your money back. There is a bunch of them. My tank had very little gas in it when I added the stuff. Also pulled over right before the emission place and leaned out my carb as much as I could without the car dieing. I passed with flaying colors. They guy couldn't believe it as my CO% (2500rpm/idle) reading went from 2.48/7.86 to 0.86/2.29 (2500rpm/idle)! Limit in Colorado is 5.50. The crap really does work! On the way back I filled up with gas and readjusted my carb to the pollute mode. The best news is that in Colorado (collector cars only) as long as you renew your plates prior to expiration, you never have to do another emissions test.

Re: Failed emissions help

Hey Matt, what was the name of the additive that you put in?

I 've got to take the old NY'er in, and am afraid it won't pass...gettin' long in the tooth. Some guy on the web said to take out the filter completely, then replace after the test. The he said that a person should run high test for a 1/2 hour at a fair sustained speed, and to go in with a tank half full. In addition to this, the oil change should be done, but a week before. Anyway, he figured, that all this would help in the passing of the E test. Has anyone else heard of any of this stuff?

Also read on another site, that if the car fails miserably, and it look like a maj repair...to take it to another station to have the test done, and there might be a scam going on. Comments?

Re: Failed emissions help

Just called Autozone as I don't remember the name. The stuff is called "Pass Emission" and has the "Guaranteed to pass emission..." statement on it. The guy said they had it on the shelf.

Re: Failed emissions help

I no nothing about a 95 camaro..
If it was a carbutered 1st gen type, my 1st reaction is the dizzy is way over advanced, and /or the springs to light. (usually cause timing has been done by 'ear' and/or vac gauge.

My Spelling is not incorrect...it is creative

Re: Failed emissions help

BUMP!!!

I got it diagnosed, its my EGR valve and Secondary Air Pump. EGR valve is easy, but I'm not sure what all I'll need on the pump....anyone have some part numbers I can get? I know I'll need to replace the check valves, pump, and probably the hoses....
