Mechanical Fuel Pump

I've been having trouble with blown diaphrams in my fuel pump. 3 times in 5 years. Are they just not using good material on the rebuild, or is there an underlying problem here? Any help would be appreciated (except telling me to go to an electrical pump)

Re: Mechanical Fuel Pump

I can't think of anything other than the gas you're using!....I remember running a Summit electric fuel pump which eventually created a pin hole due to using the high octane racing gasoline!

Re: Mechanical Fuel Pump

I think you're right about the gas. A friend reminded my that each time it happened, it was after a long spell without driving it due to upgrades. Plus the fact that we have 10% Ethanol in our gas. I've been told thet Ethanol does not play nice with plastic and rubber parts, especially when the car sits up.

Re: Mechanical Fuel Pump

another issue is if you got a high pressure pump and no return line.
itll blow the diaphram in no time.
